Nannama is one of the names of Nammu, the ancient Sumerian goddess of the primordial sea. Once I learned a little bit more about her, it was clear she wanted to be named as the water goddess in this song. This song is dedicated to and inspired by my friend and cellist extraordinaire Suellen Primost, who left this earthly existence on June 27, 2025. The lyrics come from some texts and voice messages that Suellen sent me when she knew that her time was near.

I had the chance to play this song with Suellen once, about a month before she died, under the big mama tree in the yard of her beautiful yurt in Sebastopol. I also was able to capture this beautiful photo of her that day.

We were not able to capture good audio quality when we played this outdoors, so our mutual friend Jeff Martin stepped in a few months later to play the cello parts. He expressed that he felt like Suellen was holding his hand as these cello parts came through. I also pulled in Suellen's voice from one of those messages she left me.

This song is being released on Suellen's birthday, April 21. She touched so many lives and collaborated with so many musicians. I am honored to be one of them and to have known this very special woman.
